ASC - Who we serve
The Association of Speakers Clubs was set up to achieve a purpose. In being successful it has a very clear idea of who it serves.
Members
A club is its members - past, present and future. They are the stewards responsible for its health, direction and dynamism.
In turn to distil the best of what our members have to give, ASC has to be of maximum benefit to our members. To do this we need a clear idea of who and what our members are and could be.
Diversity
There is only one word that describes our members - diversity. We have people from all ages, backgrounds, and beliefs. We have one common purpose - to better ourselves and in the process help others.
No other dynamic protects the health of our association as much as this diversity.
Future Members
The future members dictate how ASC will evolve which in turn reflects the challenges they will face in the future.
However as the need for speaking in public grows, ASC is preparing itself for increasing numbers and a lowering of the average age. There are plans that will ensure ASC remains relevant and current to its members.
Society
In Britain we are too shy in talking about the importance of helping society. We do it - everyday! However discussing it comes over as uncool and to be avoided.
One reason might be that we feel it could sound pompous and more about self aggrandisement.
Another is the difficulty of linking the development of the person and the benefits to society. They happen in different time frames, interacting between different people and in different settings. Yet none doubt that a person armed with more confidence and with the ability to motivate others through better communication skills will help society.
ASC and its supporters recognise that we are here to ultimately serve society as well as our members.
